Angela "Anjee-O" Oliver
Improv/Theatre Arts Teacher Bio:
Angela Oliver is a professional touring improv/sketch comedy actor and teaching artist with 10+ years of dedicated experience in utilizing improvisation and interdisciplinary performance art to engage, empower and advocate for underrepresented voices. She loves facilitating spaces that make people feel safe to try new things in front of strangers and connect with people of all ages and walks of life.
Her recent teaching highlights include, developing and facilitating improv and theatre arts programming for the Jane Addams Hull House Museum in Chicago (where it all started), co-facilitating with Sills Spolin Theater Works, and teaching at the Annoyance Theatre.
Her teaching philosophy centers around empowering people to trust their gut and become more confident in making innovative choices that are unique to them in their play.
She is a teacher and resident director at the Annoyance Theatre Chicago and Second City Chicago alum. Angela is also a proud ensemble member of Storytown Improv, Chicago Improv Productions, and the highly-praised award winning all WOC improv team, Matt Damon Improv, with whom she has co-facilitated and slayed many a festival stage and empowerment workshop.
If she could offer one bit of advice to improv students on their journey it would be this…
Be kind and patient with yourself. Try not to fall into the “compare and despair” trap in art and in life. Trust your instincts. Remember to take care of yourself. Your growth as an artist is not separate from your growth as a human being. Have fun!
